MANHATTAN — Police are looking for a man who grabbed a woman on her way out of the 23rd Street C train station, then fled when she screamed, officials said.

The woman told police she was exiting the Chelsea station at 25th Street and Eighth Avenue around 2:40 a.m. Monday morning when she was grabbed.

"She was screaming, 'He tried to rape me!'" a subway booth attendant who was on duty at the time told the Daily News. "She had a cut on her right hand, but I don't know if it was from a knife or just scratches."

The man ran away after the woman screamed, she told police.

Police said the incident might have been an attempted sexual assault.

The man is described as African American, with a black hat and a black bubble jacket. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS(8477.)
