FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A man who was harassing downtown pedestrians last month has been charged with resisting arrest and assault after the broke an NYPD officers hand, police said.
Gary Lawrence, 56, a Brooklyn resident, allegedly pushed the first officer who approached him at the corner of Fulton and William streets about 10:10 p.m. Oct. 29, police said.
Lawrence then refused to put his hands behind his back, and he slammed a second officer's arm and hand against a wall three times, according to police and the Manhattan District Attorney.
The second officer, a member of lower Manhattan's 1st precinct, "suffered a broken hand, bruising, swelling and substantial pain," according to the DA’s criminal complaint.
Lawrence was charged with three counts of assault, resisting arrest and harassment, the DA’s office said.
His next court date is Feb. 3.
