INWOOD — Dog lovers and residents are mourning the loss of neighborhood fixture and friend Deb Snyder, 54, and plan to hold a memorial event in her honor at Homer’s Run, Inwood Hill Park's dog run.

The 27-year-resident of Inwood died at the Allen Pavilion hospital, on 220th Street and Broadway, on Tuesday evening after doctors discovered an abscess.

"She was truly the heart and soul of our little community," wrote Mark Tafoya, an Inwood resident and member of Inwoof, the dog run group to which Snyder belonged.

News of Snyder’s passing made waves on Twitter, Facebook and the Inwoof listserv late Wednesday with friends posting messages.

"Dog Run Deb was an amazing woman who made #Inwood and my favorite hangout, the IHP Dog Run a better place," wrote CecilSuave on Twitter. "We will miss her terribly."

"Thank you, Deb. We can not thank you enough. We love you," wrote Inwood resident Zaida Grunes on Snyder’s Facebook page.

A notice of Snyder’s death was posted on Inwoof’s website Thursday morning with information about the planned Saturday memorial.

"She was a tireless advocate for our four-legged friends, and earned the love of respect of those on two legs," it reads. "She is survived by her beloved Border Collie Mix Nick."

Residents who want to pay tribute to Snyder can participate in the memorial at Homer’s Run on Saturday from 11 a.m. to Noon, after which a car pool will be formed for those interested in attending a family-held funeral service in New Jersey.
