LOWER EAST SIDE — Police arrested a suspect in connection with a triple shooting on Stanton Street Tuesday night, NYPD sources said.
The unidentified shooter opened fire outside 189 Stanton St., striking a 35-year-old man in the torso, a 43-year-old man in the leg, and a 51-year-old woman in the arm at about 9 p.m., police said.
Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.
The shooting does not appear to be drug-related despite the fact that there is drug-dealing activity in the area "every day," an NYPD source said.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Attorney and Stanton streets, just around the corner from the elementary school P.S. 140 and two playgrounds.
Neighbors and workers in the area said the stretch of Stanton Street where the gunfire erupted has become a hangout for people in their teens and early-20s, and that regular fights break out.
"It's crazy around here, especially Friday and Saturday," said Vicente Flores, 45, who lives at 190 Stanton St. He said he heard six or seven gunshots and saw a man wounded in the leg in the street Tuesday night.
"Around here, it's dangerous," he said.
The fight was believed to have been sparked by an earlier argument between the shooter and at least one of the victims, the New York Times reported.
