UPPER WEST SIDE — Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance, Jr. will join domestic violence victims and advocates at a rally on the Upper West Side Thursday to raise awareness about domestic abuse.

Vance is scheduled to speak at a 10:30 a.m. rally on the steps of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on Amsterdam Avenue and West 112th Street.

Vance will be joined by domestic violence advocates Susan Xenarios, founder and director of Crime Victims Treatment Center at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center, and Reverend James Kowalski, Dean at St. John the Divine, which runs a counseling and crisis intervention program for domestic violence victims.

After the rally, the group will walk from the steps of St. John the Divine south to West 100th Street, turn onto Broadway, then walk back up north, and return to the steps.

"Throughout the country and here in New York domestic and sexual violence is reaching epidemic levels with real costs to both the victims, our neighborhoods and our social and healthcare communities," said Xenarios in a statement.

"Today’s event is historic as it marks the beginning of a community-wide effort to raise awareness and tackle the difficult issues stemming from domestic and sexual violence."
