INWOOD — Members of an Inwood community group for neighborhood dogs and their owners — called Inwoof — raked, shoveled and laid new gravel throughout a local dog run Saturday, as part of a citywide volunteer effort to keep the parks clean.

It's My Park Day encourages residents across the city to spend a day maintaining their local parks. This year, the day coincided with Inwoof's celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Inwood Hill Park's dog run, dubbed Homer's Run, and the five-year anniversary of the group.

"It is such an amazing feeling of pride, accomplishment and community spirit when the clean-up is done," Inwoof president Deb Snyder wrote on the group's listserv. "Every shovel of gravel, every tulip planted and every piece of twig or fallen leaf picked up helps."

Throughout the year community members volunteer their time to pitch in and improve community parks throughout the five boroughs.

In Upper Manhattan, groups of residents pitched in to clean Inwood Hill, Fort Tryon and Highbridge parks as well as smaller parks above 155th Street.
