WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Step back in time on Sunday to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Fort Tryon Park with musical performances, historical tours and birthday cake.

The anniversary marks the day John D. Rockefeller Jr. gave the green space in northern Manhattan to the City of New York.

Sunday's event is part of a year-long celebration of the park, which kicked off earlier this year with a gala event held by the Fort Tryon Park Trust, complete with a fireworks display on the Hudson River enjoyed by Inwood and Washington Heights residents.

“A park like this wouldn’t be built today, yet here it is in Washington Heights and we all get to enjoy it for free,” said Jennifer Hoppa, the Trust's executive director.

Billed as its “giant homecoming party,” Sunday's event will include performances by the Astrograss Band, the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre, singer Hector Martignon’s Foreign Affair, Cuban drumming, the Mother Cabrini Marching Band and face painting and fishing for kids.

The Fort Tryon Park 75th anniversary celebration will be held on Sunday, Oct. 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
