MANHATTAN — The home of the New York City Opera is also host to the city's ubiquitous bedbugs.

The New York Observer reported an outbreak in the dressing rooms at the David H. Koch Theater, at Columbus Avenue and West 63rd Street at Lincoln Center.

The theater is also home to the New York City Ballet.

"Please understand that this is an epidemic," theater managing director Mark Heiser, said in an e-mail to the paper. "Any signs of bedbug activity should not be considered a sign of an untidy house."

A bug-sniffing dog found the blood suckers in carpets and costumes, he said, and the theater is currently being treated.

The theater's fall season doesn't begin until Oct. 27, but it hosted a black-tie gala for the New York City Ballet, with high profile guests such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal on Oct. 7, the Wall Street Journal reported.
