CHINATOWN — A fire broke out in the basement of a six-story Chinatown building on Sunday night, according to the FDNY.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call that came in about 8:56 p.m. reporting a fire in the basement of a brick building at 102 Mott St. The building has a Chinese restaurant on the first floor and apartments above.

Restaurant workers said they smelled smoke and evacuated the building. Residents living above the restaurant could also smell smoke.

The FDNY does not know what sparked the fire.

The fire was under control by 9:32 p.m. and no one was injured, the Fire Department said.
