EAST HARLEM — Two armed men robbed an office in an East Harlem residential building and made off with an undisclosed sum, said a worker at the scene.
The suspects allegedly burst into the management office of 2109 First Ave. around noon and demanded money from a female employee at gunpoint, workers said.
"It’s shocking, it’s never happened here before," said Alexander Suarez, 37, a maintenance worker in the building.
Suarez said he wasn’t in the unit when the incident occurred, but hurried inside after hearing a commotion from out in the street.
"When I ran over here she was on the floor by herself," he said of the employee who was held up.
The building’s president, who did not want to be identified by name, said the two men were captured on video. He described one of them as black and one as Hispanic, but did not estimate their ages.
He said he felt the area has become safer over the last several years and was surprised by the heist.
"We’ve been here for 28 years and this is the first time we’ve been robbed," he said.
