MANHATTAN — Braylon Edwards finally caught something — a DWI charge.

The New York Jets wide receiver is in trouble with the law again after police pulled him over on the West Side and charged him with driving while intoxicated, the New York Post reported.

Edwards, 27, was driving his Range Rover when police pulled him over at 34th Street and 12 Avenue at 5:15 a.m. for having windows with too much tint, the paper reported.

Police smelled alcohol on Edwards' breath and had him take a breathalyzer test, according to the Post. The former Michigan star reportedly had a blood alcohol level of .16, which is twice the legal limit of .08 in New York State.

On the field, Edwards is known more for dropping balls and having a giant beard than his ability to make big plays for the Jets.

The 6-foot-3 receiver, who led the NFL with 16 drops in 2008, had an 80-yard touchdown catch against the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game, but overall his production has been inconsistent for Gang Green. He has six touchdown catches in 17 games with the Jets, including three playoff games.

Edwards caught a touchdown pass for the Jets in their Week 2 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday. However, Jets fans were quickly reminded of his immaturity when he drew a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for taunting a Patriots defensive back after the play.

Tuesday's arrest isn't the first time the Jets wide receiver has run afoul with the law. Edwards was traded to the Jets last October after he was involved in a nightclub fight with one of LeBron James' friends in Cleveland on Oct. 3. He pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge in January.

Edwards was once pulled over in Cleveland for driving 120 mph in a 65 mph zone, according to ESPN. He was also partying with then-teammate Donte Stallworth on the night Stallworth struck and killed a pedestrian while driving drunk in Miami in March 2009.

The Jets organization was quick to comment on Edwards' latest arrest.

"We are very disappointed in Braylon's actions this morning," Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said in a written statement. "The Player Protect program is in place for our organization to prevent this situation. Braylon is aware of this program and showed poor judgment."

Tannenbaum's statement refers to the Player Protect program, which gives car service to NFL players who are out partying.

Edwards could face a suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy if convicted on the DWI charge.

"We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures," Tannenbaum said.
