NOHO – New York University officially opened its new bookstore Tuesday afternoon with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The new store at 726 Broadway, which includes a space to host book readings and other cultural events, replaces the old bookstore at 18 Washington Place.
"It's bright, it's cheery," said NYU Executive Vice President Michael Alfano. "Our bookstore didn't always look this way — it wasn't this large, it wasn't this pretty."
The new store offers 7,000 textbooks, but also 35,000 general reading titles designed to cater to neighborhood residents.
The university will continue to celebrate the opening through Friday with a 20-percent-off sale for clothing and general reading books and a raffle for a free iPad.
