INWOOD — Two trees fell in Inwood Hill Park Friday, and their sound was heard across Twitter.

“Sittin in #IRC [Indian Road Café] when a tree came down on 218th at the entrance 2park,” WiLLTeeZ posted on the social networking site with a link to a photograph of people surveying the aftermath.

“2ppl sitting directly underneath unharmed," he added.

Another citizen journalist, Inwood resident and photographer Rich Herrera, also captured the wreckage.

Adding to the fascination was the fact that, at the time of the incident, there were no storms and no wind in the area — the weather was perfectly calm.

"The trees were loosened by the recent tornado," explained Parks spokeswoman Cristina DeLuca, referring to a twister that ripped through the area just north of Inwood on July 25, nearly two weeks before the incident.

A large chunk of the tree had split off as a result of a tornado that ripped through the area just north of Inwood on July 25, said a Parks spokeswoman.

"One was cracked at the base and the other was lifted out of the soil," DeLuca added, regarding the fallen trees.

There were no reported injuries, according to Parks officials, and affected walkways have since been cleared.
