UPPER EAST SIDE — Trendy clothing store Urban Outfitters is set to outfit Upper East Siders with a new store in the neighborhood.
The chain store, known for its hipster-pleasing looks, signed a lease for a 12,000 square foot space at the southeast corner of East 86th Street and Third Avenue at the base of the Brompton residential building.
"We are delighted to have secured one of the nation's most popular retailers for our building at 200 East 86th Street," said Seth Pilevsky, managing director of real estate firm Phillips International, in a statement.
Urban Outfitters already has stores on the Upper West Side, SoHo, Union Square, the East Village and West Village as well as 157 stores across the nation.
The new location's construction came under criticism from the New York City District Council of Carpenters, which is locked in a labor dispute with the company hired by Urban Outfitters to do carpentry work at the new location, New York Magazine reported.
The picketers protested disparities in wages and benefits, the magazine reported.
