LOWER MANHATTAN — The Landmarks Preservation Commission will meet Tuesday morning to decide the fate of the 152-year-old building that would be torn down near Ground Zero to build a mosque and community center.
Opponents of the 13-story project have urged the city to landmark the historic building at 45-47 Park Place to block the mosque.
The commission held a three-hour hearing on the building July 13. Tuesday’s meeting is also open to the public, and the Landmarks Commission is preparing for a large crowd, but the commission will not accept public comments.
The Landmarks Commission’s 11 members are appointed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who supports the project known as Cordoba House and Park51.
Community Board 1 also supports the project and voted earlier this week that 45-47 Park Place is not worth landmarking.
The Landmarks Commission will meet at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University. The entrance is located on Spruce Street near Gold Street.
