UPPER EAST SIDE — The Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club lost out on big money when it had to cancel its annual designer show earlier this year,  but the club may still find success with its newest fundraising effort.

The club will try to break the Guinness Book of World Records record for the largest number of ballet dancers standing en pointe at one time Monday in an effort to raise $100,000 for its dance program.

Organizers hope up to 1,000 dancers participate and stand on their toes for one minute at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park. Dancers are encouraged to donate $10 to the club so that the group can meet the fundraising goal.

The current record for stands at 220 dancers en pointe simultaneously.

Supporters of the club are hoping this will help offset the setback they were dealt in April when the Upper West Side town home they planned to use for the organization's annual design show was sold.

Although the dance event will not raise as much as the $1 million the show typically brings in, all of the proceeds will benefit the club's dance program, which is a partnership with the Angelina Ballerina Stars of Tomorrow Program.

In May, the club also launched a designer pop-up store on the Upper East Side to try to recoup some of their losses after the fundraiser was canceled.

The program brings hip hop, Latin, ballet and African dance to the Boys and Girls Club, said Noelle Dong, a spokeswoman for the event.
