MANHATTAN — Russell Simmons, Jerry Seinfeld, and Bethenny Frankel were among the stars who walked the red carpet Tuesday night during a preview of Target's new East Harlem store.

Rapper Doug E Fresh performed and local chef Marcus Samuelsson, who is due to open a restaurant in Harlem, showed off his new cookware line.

The much-hyped chain store is set to open on July 25th at 116th Street and Pleasant Avenue. The star-studded event drew locals as well, who bombarded the store to check out the new goods inside.

"It's hectic in there," said Target staffer Karess Cummins, 23.

Jodi Hanel, 41, said she was surprised by some of the products. "The fresh fruit and vegetables really stood out for me," she said.

"I've never see that in a Target before."

Target reps have been pumping up the new store as a boon to the neighborhood, with merchandise specially-selected to appeal to the store's neighbors.

That includes Spanish language and Ebony greeting cards, Latin and Gospel music and "a large assortment of multicultural dolls," according to a statement from the store.

The new store also includes clothing designed by locals, including swimwear designed by the Isabel and Roben Toledo, and clothing by Stephen Burrows.
