MIDTOWN — A woman was hit by an SUV as she passed in front of a parking garage near Bryant Park on Wednesday evening.

The silver SUV accelerated and hit the pedestrian as well as the car in front of it on 43rd Street, between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue, just after 6:30 p.m. witnesses said. Police officers said the woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bellevue Hospital.

The driver of the silver Infiniti SUV declined to comment. He reportedly told workers at the Hippodrome 24-hour parking garage that his foot had slipped off the break and hit the accelerator.

The driver of the silver Volvo sedan that was rammed from behind stood outside the garage, helping to divert traffic around the emergency vehicles.

"I was waiting to make the right, when the car behind me mistook the gas for the break and accelerated," said Andrew Budkofsky, 40.

Budkofsky, of New Jersey, said he was unharmed.
