BATTERY PARK CITY — Summer 2010 is officially here with Monday's Summer Solstice, heralding the beginning of three more months of steamy subway platforms, stoop-front idling and Central Park sunbathing.
With temperatures hovering close to 90, New Yorkers are out in full force in Manhattan’s green spaces.
“It’s awesome,” said Marco Pisacreta, 35, a salesman from the East Village, of the rising mercury. “There’s so much to do here, it’s probably one of the best cities in the world to live in.”
While Pisacreta said his favorite aspect of summer in the city is imbibing cold beer at outdoor cafés, many others cited relaxing in local parks as the city's top summer perk.
Erica Kearney, 47, who works in banking and lives in New Jersey, said she loved watching boats pass by from a bench in Battery Park.
Engineer Louis Jacques, 48, also from New Jersey, said he preferred a different bit of seasonal scenery.
“The beautiful women, what else?” he said.
Still others spoke of the general uptick in sunny outlooks.
“I think when it’s summer, everybody, tourists and New Yorkers alike, their attitude is much better,” said Kristen Brophy, 23, a paralegal from the Upper East Side.
