MEATPACKING DISTRICT — The vibe will be electric.
InterActive Music New York comes to the Meatpacking District for the first time with more than a dozen events on two stages on Monday.
The event, with stages located on 14th Street and another on Gansevoort Street along Ninth Avenue, will allow Manhattanites to take part in the giant interactive electronic music festival.
“We really haven’t had a program like this in the Meapacking District ever,” said organizer Kentaro Umezaki. “Given the style of music which is very experimental and technology-centric this should be a great area for the festival.”
One event called “Still Sounds Runs Deep” performed by the Manhattan New Music Project relies on artists improvising tunes based on sounds that arise in the neighborhood, such as a passing siren on a firetruck.
Another program involves “circuit bending” where participants rewire electronic instruments to create custom sounds.
“It’s really cool," Umezaki promises. "Electronic nerds are really into it.”
InterActive Music New York is part of Make Music Festival New York that brings more than 1,000 events to the city for the one day.
As part of the festivities, 60 pianos will be placed in public spaces throughout the city available for anyone to play.
