EAST VILLAGE — Friends of a disabled community activist who died after being knocked down by a cab on Essex Street will hold a memorial for him Sunday.

Harry Wieder, 57, was killed in April as he crossed the street after leaving a Community Board 3 meeting.

Wieder, a dwarf who walked with crutches, had been an outspoken advocate for transportation, disability and gay and transgender issues.

The memorial will be led by Councilwoman Rosie Mendez and drag performer Lady Clover Honey. It will include invited speakers, live performances and an open mic for guests to reflect on Wieder’s life.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sunday June 20, at the Cooper Union’s Great Hall, 7 E. Seventh St.

For more information and to share photos of Wieder for a slideshow to be presented at the memorial, e-mail harrysmemorial@aol.com and joyceravitz@yahoo.com.
