MANHATTAN — One of New York's most celebrated hotels can add another notch to its belt this week: the Carlyle Hotel is named in FBI files as a place where three Kennedy brothers held orgies involving Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe, among others.

The star-studded "sex parties" took place in former President John F. Kennedy's suite at the Carlyle Hotel on the Upper East Side, a millionairess tipster told the FBI, according to recently declassified documents surveyed by the New York Post.

The late politicians, John, Bobby and Ted Kennedy, along with their sister Patricia and her husband, actor Peter Lawford, were all allegedly involved, along with ratpackers Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., and actress Marilyn Monroe, the Post reported.

"The FBI did not consider the rumor solid," the bureau noted in their introduction to the collected files. "[A]nd no other mention of it appears in the file, suggesting that the informant did not supply any corroboration to the story."

The Post identified the source as Jacqueline Hammond, 40, the ex-wife of a U.S. Ambassador.

The documents released Monday, detailing the FBI's dealings with the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, total more than 2,200 pages.

However, "at no point do these files suggest that the FBI investigated Senator Kennedy for a criminal violation or as a security threat," according to the introduction.

"The bulk of this material concerns FBI investigation of threats of violence and other extortion claims against Senator Kennedy and other public officials."
