UPPER WEST SIDE — A fire erupted on an Upper West Side balcony Wednesday morning for the second time in two months, ripping through an apartment before spreading to the roof, authorities said.

The FDNY is now investigating the cause of the two fires that ignited on the same balcony of a co-op building at 100 West 72nd Street, at the corner of Columbus Avenue.

The latest blaze was reported about 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, according to the FDNY. It took firefighters about half an hour to put out the blaze.

"I saw flames shooting out of the roof, about eight feet tall," said Bobby Quintero, who saw the blaze outside his bedroom window on 75th Street and Columbus Avenue.

A man escaped the two-story apartment and there were no injuries, said FDNY deputy chief Anthony DeVita, who was at the scene.

A managing agent for the building, who asked not to be identified, said the same deck caught fire about six weeks ago and was snuffed out by a water hose.

Wednesday's blaze caused more damage.

"It's burnt pretty good, the bedroom and the deck," he said.
