MANHATTAN — A man was found dead inside his East Village apartment Tuesday morning, police said.

Police were called to the apartment on East 12th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A around 10:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a male not breathing at the location, the NYPD said.

The man, who police described as in his 60s, was found unconscious and unresponsive inside the apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police added.

An autopsy will be performed Wednesday to determine the cause of death, a spokesperson for the city Medical Examiner's Office said.

Police added that they had tentatively identified the man but could not release his name.

An investigation is ongoing, the NYPD said.
