MANHATTAN — How much does $20,000 a month get you in today’s East Village?
Three bedrooms and a rooftop pool overlooking Manhattan’s former Skid Row, according to recently reported rental figures for a new residential building on the Bowery.
The jaw-dropping prices for some rental units in the luxury building at 2 Cooper Square mark the highest-ever asking rents in the neighborhood’s history, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The 15-story residence at the corner of E. Fourth Street was originally designed to attract students from nearby colleges like New York University and Cooper Union, the paper reported.
But a shift in the area’s makeup over the past few years — including the addition of two upscale hotels and the New Museum nearby on the Bowery — reportedly allowed developer Atlantic Development Group to re-imagine its marketing plan.
Other amenities at the 144-unit building include a fitness center, screening room, and a common walk-in refrigerator to store residents’ food and flower deliveries, the Journal reported.
The paper added that 21 of the building’s units have already been leased.
