FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Of all the people glad to see summer come early, one of the happiest on Friday afternoon was Jake Shaik.

“It’s good!” Shaik said, grinning from behind his post at the Seaport Water stand on Pier 17, as customers queued up for cold sodas.

Shaik said he was on target to make $300 thanks to Friday’s sun. He was hoping to make $500 on Saturday.

Throngs of tourists lounged on the wooden steps at the end of Pier 17 Friday afternoon, taking in the views. A few middle-aged men napped in the sun, while parents put sunscreen on their children and tugged them into the shade.

On the north side of the pier, workers made final preparations to open Water Taxi Beach Friday evening. Dotted with picnic tables, the sandy expanse features a fish shack, a raw bar and happy hour drink specials.

The weather provided an auspicious backdrop for a just-married couple, Chris Finazzo, 28, and Susan Heck, 27.

The Upper West Siders tied the knot at the Battery Gardens restaurant in Battery Park Friday afternoon, then headed to the Seaport, one of their favorite places in the city, to take pictures.
