MANHATTAN — A man fell 42 stories to his death Tuesday morning from the roof of the Le Parker Meridien Hotel in Midtown where the Los Angeles Angels baseball team is staying for their three-game series against the Yankees this week.

“It sounded like a dumpster being dropped,” said Michael Norizsan, a mechanical engineer, who saw the man hit the ground.

Another bystander said it sounded “just like a gunshot”.

Norizsan was sitting in his work van at 7:55 a.m. when he saw the man land on his legs and then hit his head. He described the man, not yet identified, as a “blue-collar guy” wearing jeans and a white jacket. A sneaker was seen next to the body.

The unidentified man was believed to be 38, the New York Post reported.

“We never seen anything like this, it’s horrible,” said Benedict Dechasseval, a French tourist who’s been staying at the hotel for two days with his wife, Juliette.

Angels players signed autographs for fans outside the hotel while police and other officials attended to the body, covered by a sheet, in the street.

The team was headed to the Bronx to take on the Yankees during their home opener at Yankee Stadium.

It's the third fall from a Manhattan high-rise in recent weeks.

Yale student Cameron Debaghi jumped from the Observation Deck of the Empire State Building last month.

Earlier in March, a man's body was found in a parking garage across from Rockefeller Center. He had apparently fallen from a neighboring apartment building.
