MANHATTAN — A 26-year-old lighting designer was found dead in his luxury Financial District apartment wearing a latex mask with his hands cuffed behind his back, the NYPD said Tuesday.
Alejandro Bulaevsky, who studied at Parsons the New School for Design, was found Monday afternoon about 5:24 p.m. at his 90 West Street apartment on the 16th floor.
He was wearing a black suit, made of latex or a similar material, and a latex mask, police said.
His body was found lying in the kitchen by the building superintendent.
Relatives contacted the super after they hadn't heard from Bulaevsky, the New York Post reported. He was last seen Sunday at 8 p.m.
There were no signs of a break in to Bulaevsky's apartment and it didn't appear that he had been attacked, police said.
Police removed his body from the building about 2 a.m., officials at the crime scene Tuesday said.
Bulaevsky worked on design projects for prominent hotels, including Jumeirah Essex House on Central Park South, the News reported.
Photos on Bulaevsky's Facebook page show him in several locations across the globe, including Brazil, the U.K. and Panama.
Tyson Sawyer, 32, has lived in the high-priced building with his girlfriend since August and was surprised to hear that there may have been a crime there.
"This is the first bad news I've ever heard in the building, but me and my girlfriend feel very safe here," Sawyer said.
The city's Medical Examiner will determine a cause of death, police said.
