MANHATTAN — Sporting custom-made patchwork bell-bottoms, long dark hair and John Lennon-style sunglasses, a hippy dippy Mayor Michael Bloomberg took to the stage on a cardboard VW bus to perform a rendition of “Hair” for the 2010 Inner Circle charity dinner Saturday night.
The annual event raises money for several charities, including the American Heart Association and Coalition for the Homeless, and features roasts of political figures performed by City Hall reporters.
In one skit this year Gov. David Paterson, who did not attend the event, was reportedly portrayed as the captain of the Titanic steering the behemoth directly into an iceberg — presumably an analogy for the cash-strapped state and his numerous political blunders.
The governor was then shipwrecked on Governors Island where he was encircled by “sharks,” including Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, his political rival until Paterson dropped out of the gubernatorial race, and Lt. Gov. Richard Ravitch, who has taken over control of the state budget process amid the state's fiscal crisis.
Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and fellow “Jersey Shore” cast member Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino sang along the mayor to reworked lyrics from the Broadway hit play in a spoof titled “Mair.”
“Mayor B!! He's the man!!” Snooki tweeted in the early hours of Sunday, attaching a photo of herself, the mayor and The Situation.
