FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A crane struck a 25-story building Saturday night, sending bricks and debris raining down on to the street.

Three buildings had to be evacuated and streets closed after the crane became unsecured about 7:45 p.m.

Shortly later, the crane crashed into the top stories of 80 Maiden Lane. No one was inside the building at the time and nobody was injured.

Rescuers from numerous emergency response groups were on scene to help with the evacuation and to secure the crane.

Three other buildings on the street had to be evacuated.

The Daily News reported that the crane was operated by Skylift Master Riggers, of Long Island.
