UPPER EAST SIDE — Rent-stabilized residents are relieved an Upper East Side prep school with plans for expansion won't be moving into an adjacent building, the New York Post reported.
The Brearley School, which has distinguished alumnae including Kyra Sedgwick and Caroline Kennedy, planned to add teaching space near its 610 E. 83rd St. location.
Elderly, rent-stabilized residents of the building at 85 East End Ave., however, fought against the purchase of half of their building, saying they would be displaced.
The school is no longer in talks to make the purchase, but would not specify why the plans had changed, the Post reported.
"The Brearley School remains committed to acquiring additional teaching space," the school said to the paper.
