CHELSEA — The Roxy will not be reborn, as vocal community members killed a plan to build a mega-club where the famed roller rink and nightclub once stood.
The owners of hot spots Taj Lounge, Katra and Leopard Lounge submitted plans to develop a 2,100-person-capacity lounge and disco at the W. 18th Street spot on Tenth Avenue that drew fire from neighbors.
But their lawyer announced at a community board meeting earlier this month that they are taking the application off the table.
“We’re willing to walk away from this project,” said Frank Palillo, who represents the applicants, to a roar of applause from neighbors. “We realize the only way we would be successful in this venture is with a harmonious relationship with neighbors.”
