Madison Square Garden Valentine's Day Proposal Turns Out To Be a Stunt

By Michael P. Ventura | February 16, 2010 11:39am | Updated on February 16, 2010 12:04pm

MANHATTAN — A Valentine's Day wedding proposal at a Rangers game that ended with the woman storming off was revealed as a hoax Tuesday.

A man and a woman wearing Rangers jerseys popped up on the Gardenvision Jumbotron screen during the second period of Sunday's hockey game, along with the phrase: "Melissa will you be my Blueshirt Bride? Love, Nick."

The woman then appeared to get upset, shook her head, and got up and left, leaving the man sitting there and an awkward hush over the crowd, the Daily News reported.

The couple, however, were paid actors who are actually engaged, a source told the News, and the stunt was created by Garden staff.

A Garden spokesman did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

A Rangers game wedding proposal, which was denied by the bride to be, reportedly was a stunt.
