BATTERY PARK CITY — Ice Skaters won’t be rocking on the rink this Saturday.

Instead, it’s going to be all about Indian Bollywood tunes at the Battery Park City ice rink, located on Murray Street.

In a special event, kids and adults can skate to Indian sub-continent music as well as enjoy samosas and chai complements of Café Pan Latin.

“I’ve always thought it would be great to play Indian music in the outdoors and what better venue then the skating rink,” said Neeta Vallab, the event organizer.

Participants are encouraged to dress up Bollywood style between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., but it’s not required.

Madeline Lebetkin, 8, was testing out her Bollywood clothes in anticipation of the event.

“I like the outfits when I skate because that’s what the professionals do," she said. "It's actually fun to wear the costume and skate.”

The ice rink is in its first year of a five-year contract with the Battery Park City authority.
