MANHATTAN — Television and stage actor John Stamos helped the FBI uncover a $680,000 extortion plot, leading to the arrest of two people last week, according to published reports.

Stamos, who is currently in New York starring in "Bye Bye Birdie" on Broadway, went to the FBI last month after receiving multiple e-mails from a man threatening to release embarrassing photos to the media unless Stamos paid him money, according to the FBI affidavit obtained by the Smoking Gun Web site.

The person, referred to as "Brian L." in the affidavit, claimed to have discovered embarrassing pictures of Stamos taken at a 2004 party in Florida and said they would "cause harm" to his reputation if they were released to the public.

The "Full House" star's lawyer reached out to the FBI, which then had an agent send e-mails to Brian L. in order to set up a face-to-face money exchange.

Allison Coss, 23, and Scott Sippola, 30, were arrested by the FBI after meeting with a undercover agent at a Michigan airport, the affidavit stated.

Three photos of Stamos, papers with Stamos' phone number, and the phone numbers of tabloid magazines were recovered when the FBI searched the couple's home.

Stamos told the FBI that he had met Coss while vacationing in Florida in 2004 and joined her at the party where the photos were taken. Coss and Stamos stayed in touch via e-mail since the party, according to the Smoking Gun.
