MANHATTAN — Alexa Ray Joel, the daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, is staying with her father after being hospitalized for an overdose in her West Village apartment, news reports said.
Joel, 23, was rushed to St. Vincent Medical Center Saturday after police received a 911 call reporting a possible suicide the New York Post reported. A person close to Alexa Ray told ABC overdosed on a homeopathic antihistamine called Traumeel.
"She'll be fine," a source told the Daily News. "Christie visited her last night. Billy is with her right now."
Fire Department officials told the Post Joel said she took eight pills and was having trouble breathing when rescuers arrived at her Bethune Street apartment.
Police said it was not clear if Joel attempted suicide or accidentally overdosed, the Associated Press reported.
Several media outlets report Joel may have been trying to get the attention of her ex-boyfriend, hard-rock bassist James Elliott who goes by the name Jimmy Riot.
"She has battled depression," a source told the News. "She had a rough breakup with a boyfriend . . . It was her first love."
Alexa is the only daughter of Joel and Brinkley. The two divorced in 1994 after nine years of marriage.
