BATTERY PARK CITY — Ice-skaters in the city have a new place to go with the addition of a ice rink in Lower Manhattan.
For the first time, a rink has opened at the Battery Park City ballfields, on West and Murray Streets, giving life to a park that is normally desolate throughout the winter.
But this is no typical ice rink. Skaters can wander off the normal oval circuit and venture on to an ice path that takes them around the ballfields.
The grand opening is being held on Dec. 10 and the rink will be open until mid-February. It costs $10 to skate. An extra $3 gets you a pair of rentals.
For those aspiring to dance on ice, there are lessons at $15 a session.
The rink is open daily from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays, weather permitting.
