MANHATTAN — A Harlem grandmother was shot in the leg by a stray bullet as she crossed the street Thursday, according to published reports.
Virginia Valree, 66, was crossing the street at Lenox Avenue and 135th Street when she was hit, the New York Post reported. The bullet reportedly came from a half-block away where police said two men were arguing and one fired at the other.
"All I know is I was just standing there and my leg gave in," Valree told the Daily News Wednesday night.
"I was on the ground. I was laying there saying, 'Somebody stop the traffic!' because I didn't want to get run over."
Valree was last reported in stable condition at Harlem Hospital. She told the Daily News the bullet fractured a bone in her leg and will require surgery.
Police have not yet identified a suspect.
Valree is the second person shot stray bullets this week. On Monday, 15-year-old Vada Vasquez was shot in the head while on her way home from school in The Bronx. Vasquez remained in critical condition Thursday.
