MANHATTAN — An investigation is underway to determine whether a woman who died in a Morningside Heights apartment fire on Wendesday started the fire herself.

Christina Cuardarado, 48, was found in a bedroom of her apartment at 250 W. 104th street around 6:30 p.m., police said.

Cuardarado's mother called 911 after she tried to open the door to the bedroom and found it was blocked by suitcases, reported NY1.

"Her mom came home and called for the super," FDNY Deputy Chief Mike Mullins told NY1. "She saw smoke and she tried to get in and the fire department was called and they forced their way in and stretched the hose line and put the fire out."

There were no other reported injuries and the investigation is ongoing.
