BATTERY PARK CITY — Dogs of all shapes and sizes were decked out in their halloween costumes as Battery Park City celebrated its eighth annual Halloween Pet Parade on Saturday.

The event started eight years ago as a way of bringing the neighborhood together for something positive after the terrorst attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“After 9/11 We thought that it was a good thing to pull the community together,” said Le Pet Spa owner Bobby Concister.

Saturday's parade featured several awards in different categories from small dogs to large dogs as well as team combinations that included the owners costume as well.

“It’s very difficult you always look for originality,” said Battery Park City resident Pauline Wolf, who served as a judge.

There were lions, ballerinas and hot dogs all vying for the spot of top dog.

A greyhound dressed as a cop with his owner dressed as a convict earned the top prize of a $50 gift certificate to Le Pet Spa.
