A BB-gun sniper is terrorizing an Alphabet City block, shooting at least eight people and blowing out several car windows, police and witnesses said. The shootings, centered around the busy corner of Avenue D and E. Third St. in the last week, have prompted stepped-up police patrols and wariness in the area. [DNAinfo.com]

City Councilman John Liu has won the Democratic nomination for comptroller, putting him on the path to become the first Asian-American ever elected to a citywide post in New York City. Liu received 56 percent of the vote to defeat Councilman David Yassky, of Brooklyn.
