UPPER WEST SIDE — It's been the talk of the Upper West Side and tech blogs ever since the sleek paneled walls began to be erected on the corner of Broadway and 67th Street — is Apple building a store there?
Now, DNAinfo has learned that the computer giant is in fact building a new store at that location.
While the company is still officially mum on the topic, construction workers at the site said it was no coincidence that the paneled walls and block-like shape were built in Apple's signature style.
A new store will be opening soon, they confirmed.
"We're not supposed to tell you," one added.
The location has been one of the worst kept secrets in Manhattan. Rumors are circulating on Web sites and blogs that the company is looking to hire 100 workers for a late November opening.
Calls and e-mails to Apple went unanswered.
Apple's three other Manhattan stores are among the most successful of the company's 225 U.S. locations. The Fifth Avenue and 59th Street location may be the most profitable in the country, pulling in annual sales estimated at $350 million, according to Bloomberg.com.
