LOGAN SQUARE — Damn Fine Coffee Bar is reopening on Saturday, nine days after an electrical fire shut it down.
On Thursday, the coffee shop, 3317 W. Armitage Ave., posted on Facebook, saying, "Thanks for all the #lovenotes! But guess what? We're planning on re-opening TOMORROW! It was a difficult week for everyone but we all made it through!"
"So many thanks to everyone who showed their support. The whole crew thanks you!"
The electrical fire started around 9:30 p.m. Aug. 17 in neighboring Botanica Obatala, 3319 W. Armitage Ave., a religious shop that has called the street home for at least a decade, according to neighbors.
No one was injured, but the blaze destroyed everything in the botancia, from figurines and books to beads and candles. Damn Fine Coffee Bar also suffered from smoke damage inside and out.
Neighbors set up fundraising campaigns for both the botanica and the coffee shop. As of Friday morning, the coffee shop's campaign had raised $2,980.
It's unclear if the botanica, which suffered the most damage, will reopen. Efforts to reach the owner were unsuccessful.
