EDGEWATER — In recent years, the rising waters of Lake Michigan have swallowed Edgewater's only dog park at Foster Beach.
But by this summer, four-legged friends in the 48th Ward will again have a place to romp on the lakefront.
A new partnership with Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) and the Chicago Park District will bring a dog park to the northeast corner of Bryn Mawr Avenue and Lake Shore Drive, the alderman said in a recent letter to residents.
"Community members have been asking for a dog park in the 48th Ward for years," Osterman said. "The dog beach at Foster Beach unfortunately disappeared recently due to rising lake levels."
The park should be open by late spring or early summer and will require help from volunteers to handle its maintenance and general upkeep, Osterman said.
At 10 a.m. Feb. 10, Osterman is holding a community meeting at the Broadway Armory, 5917 N. Broadway, to discuss the project with residents.
