IRVING PARK — The industrial saw blade logo is out, a sweet yellow bird is in, and just like that, BreakRoom Brewery has transformed into Finch Kitchen, opening Thursday.
The brewpub, 2925 W. Montrose Ave., is a collaboration between Finch Beer Co. and chef Matthias Merges, whose Folkart Restaurant Management also runs Yusho, Bill Sunday and A10.
Merges' wife, architect Rachel Crowl, took the lead on the physical makeover. The result is a brighter, more whimsical look.
The beer menu features nine Finch brews on draft offered exclusively at the brewpub (see below) and another four "core" Finch beers available in cans.
On the food side, Merges' menu ranges from munchies such as pork rinds, curried popcorn and crispy chickpeas to heftier fare including a sizeable selection of sausages. Vegetarians have not been forgotten — meatless options include a flatbread, salads and a tofu sausage.
Finch Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Thursday. Regular hours will be 5 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Thursday; 3 p.m. to 2 a.m., Friday; 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m. to midnight, Sunday.
