MOUNT GREENWOOD — A coalition of 10 public schools from throughout the 19th Ward will host a rally demanding increased state funding at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The "20 for 20" rally will be held at Mount Greenwood Elementary School, 10841 S. Homan Ave. Speakers will include Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) and Chicago Public Schools Chief Executive Officer Forrest Claypool.

The event is open to the public. Participating in the rally will be administrators, teachers, parents and community members from Alice L. Barnard Elementary School, Kellogg Elementary School, Sutherland Elementary School and John H. Vanderpoel Elementary School in Beverly.

The participating schools in Mount Greenwood include the host, Mount Greenwood Elementary, along with George F. Cassell Fine Arts School.

Four schools from Morgan Park will also be represented including Morgan Park High School, Clissold Elementary School, Esmond Elementary School and the Barbara Vick Early Childhood and Family Center.

The rally aims to point out the discrepancy in funding, as CPS students account for 20 percent of total school enrollment. City residents also contribute 20 percent of the state's income tax, yet CPS students receive only 15 percent of total funding, according to organizers.
