(COLD) LAKE MICHIGAN — This week may see high temperatures near 70, but Lake Michigan was still frigid cold for a sunny polar plunge in Chicago Sunday.

Nearly 6,000 plungers waded into the icy waters at North Avenue Beach at 10 a.m. to raise money for Special Olympics, including musician Lady Gaga, "Chicago Fire" star Taylor Kinney and TV personalities Al Roker, Tamron Hall and Dylan Dreyer.

City Council also fielded a team, with Ald. Patrick D. Thompson (11th) and Ald. Matthew O’Shea (19th) leading the pack of self-proclaimed Alderbears.

So far, plungers have raised $1.37 million, just shy of their $1.5 million goal — people can donate until the end of March here
