EDGEWATER — Progress is underway in the planning phases of a complete $800,000 overhaul of Senn Park and its playground.

In an email to residents Friday, Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) said phase one of the project includes an $800,000 makeover of the park's playground. Costs for the project, due to begin this summer, are to be split between the Chicago Park District and aldermanic menu funds, Osterman said.

"I am asking the community for input and ideas ... understanding that Senn Park is an anchor in our community as one of our largest parks in Edgewater," Osterman said.

For the next phase of the project, the park's advisory council is seeking neighborhood feedback on increasing programming at Senn parks, as well as any ways to improve the area. Park Advisory Council meetings are held every second Wednesday evening of each month at 6:30 p.m. inside Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Elmdale Ave.

Neighbors have been working for the last few years on getting a revival of the park, which includes several outdoor spaces like the Senn Park Playlot, as well as other small parks and gardens along Elmdale and Thorndale avenues.

In the meantime, the Chicago Parks Foundation is continuing to offer personalized bricks that will be used for the park's renovation.
