WEST LOOP — West Loop pooches now have a new spot to stretch in the neighborhood.
An expanded half-acre dog park off of North Union Avenue near K2 Apartments officially opened Friday. The dog park, the largest in the city, is open to the public.
New York-based Georgetown Company, K2's developer, completed the project. Georgetown acquired the 500-unit luxury apartment tower in 2014.
Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd) said the new amenity will serve thousands of dog owners who live in the Fulton River District area of the West Loop.
"The Georgetown Company may be new to this neighborhood, but they've certainly proven their commitment to supporting their community by offering this much-needed dog-friendly area," Reilly said.
The West Loop also has dog-designated areas in Mary Bartelme Park and Skinner Park.
Jon Dennis, vice president of Georgetown Comapny, said the developer aims to have an active role in the neighborhood.
“The Fulton River District is a dynamic neighborhood and this new dog park is just one way we’re looking not only to enhance the lives of tenants but also be welcoming neighbors to all," he said.
A new dog park is also slated to open in Logan Square this month.
