UPTOWN — Ald. James Cappleman's (46th) office was the target of graffiti Tuesday evening.

The graffiti was first reported by Uptown Update, which noted the vandals misspelled Cappleman's name inches away from the correct spelling stenciled on the windows.

It read: "F--- Capelman [sic]. Stop the drugs"

Also scrawled on the windows were messages like "Stop the gangs" and "Unelect Capelman. Unelect Emanual [sic]. Fix Uptown."

By 5 p.m. Wednesday, the graffiti had been removed, leaving blue streak marks on the windows.

Calls to Cappleman's office were not immediately returned.

More graffiti with similar lettering, which used the correct spelling of the incumbent alderman's name, was found on the door of the Lawrence House, 1020 W. Lawrence Ave., Wednesday.

It reads: "F--- Cappleman. F--- Emanuel."

The graffiti hadn't been removed by 5 p.m. Wednesday. A troubled single-room occupancy building that shuttered, Lawrence House is now owned by Cedar Street Co., the company behind FLATS Chicago. Jay Michael, Cedar's co-founder, could not be immediately reached for comment.

Cappleman will square off against attorney Amy Crawford in the upcoming runoff election April 7. Crawford's campaign declined to comment.
